Canmore mountain biker on trail

Canmore has some of the very best mountain bike trails in Canada. This probably doesn’t surprise anyone who has ever been to Canmore’s Rocky Mountains. If you stand in the centre or down, you can see 360 degrees of cycling options! It’s incredible! There are mountain biking trails for just about any level…assuming you are prepared for the altitude that Canmore inhabits. There are numerous single-track trails and more flowy, cross-country mountain biking than you could shake a cat at!

Being that Canmore has so many mountain bike trail options, we have narrowed the focus to the top 5 trails:

EKG Loop At The Nordic Centre

The EKG look is a great, moderate climb easily accessible from the Nordic Centre parking lot. Note that you need a Kananaskis parking pass to park your vehicle. This is a rooty and relatively smooth ride (because it’s frequented popular spot) with some good climbs and descents. After all, “EKG” isn’t just a fancy name; it’s a great test of your heart!

Alpine Club Trails

Canmore is the home to The Canadian Alpine Club. It’s one of our favourite spots in town. A great place to get away, it’s also a destination for some of the world’s best climbers. But, we are here to talk about mountain biking. The trails at the Alpine Club are fantastic. Since the trails are on the north side (or, as we call it, the bright side of town), you can ridge earlier and later into the season – more sun dries out the trails earlier than in other parts of town. There are several trails to choose from!

Montane Traverse Loop

Montane Traverse is an option for a more moderate mountain bike ride. You will find some dog-loving owners with their dogs on this trail. Since it’s on the north side of town, the season is longer than on the south side.

Mosquito Bite

Some Mosquitos are pesky. This Mosquito’s bite isn’t so bad. This trail is relatively short and straightforward. You will come across more hikers and tourists during the peak summer season. It’s just shy of six kilometres on a spacious trail.

Loki

Loki is an excellent connector to the Highline. It’s a short option which leads into one of Canmore’s longest trails, the Highline; some call it the Loki Lowline trail. It connects Quarry Lake to the Highline.
